Angela Evelyn Bassett (born April 15th, 1961) is an American actress. Since the late 80s she has been working in television and film. The actress has won many awards, including sixteen NAACP Image Awards. Bassett was raised by her aunt in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Born and grew up within New York New York. Bassett as well as her sister, and their mother relocated from the city of Winston-Salem to St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was just five. Their father had divorced their mother. Bassett chose to become an actress after she saw the play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. Yale University New Haven Connecticut in which she graduated with her bachelor's degree in African American and master's degrees (1983). Courtney B. Vance met her at Yale In 1997, they were married.
